Kong (HUI, Siu Kong) has been a creative for years in the fields of graphic communication and advertising in Hong Kong, working in major design and multi-national advertising agencies. Kong is the founder of Kongnection & Art and providing calligraphy and lettering art, and graphic design services to clients.
Kong honed his creative flair in graphic communication design in Swire School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic. In PolyDesign he learnt from the famous western calligrapher Mr Derick Pao and started his lifelong study and pursuit of calligraphy and lettering.
Kong has exhibited his calligraphy pieces in various exhibitions, including the annual exhibitions by Alpha Beta Club — the Hong Kong Society of Western Calligraphic Art since 2005; exhibitions by Just Space including ‘Peace Reigns over The Land’, ‘Where Wind and Water Goes’, ‘Out of Touch’, and ‘Left Against Right’ since 2016; exhibition of ‘ART & POP’ by The Lettering Artists Association of Macao (LAAOM) in Macau in 2021; 'LOST' in 2020; ‘The Eslite Spectrum Western Calligraphy Exhibition’ and solo exhibitions of ‘Walking Alone’ in 2017; ‘kong@sense99’ and ‘Home Town’ Calligraffiti Exhibition in 2016.
Apart from providing calligraphy and lettering services for commission, Kong started teaching in 2015. He has hosted calligraphy courses for Alpha Beta Club, Chinese Foundation Secondary School, Zacca Dream, and Write The Future; guest lectures for PolyU design students and workshops for various private sectors. He is now holding regular calligraphy courses and workshops for St. James’ Settlement. Kong also gives private lessons for individuals and organisations.
